Carol Westcott has spent her career teaching contemporary vocalists of all styles and has deep experience in the repertoire associated with contemporary singing. Beyond vocal technique, Carol also has extensive knowledge of the physiology of the body as it relates to vocal training.

Meet your Instructor

For the past 35 years Carol Westcott has devoted herself to educating the next generation of singers in her private studio in Baltimore, Maryland. She is an expert in teaching adolescent and young adult singers, as well as classical and contemporary vocalists.

Students will benefit from Carol’s extensive experience with audition and performance preparation as well as her professional contacts, and knowledge about performing and audition opportunities.

Many of Carol’s students have gone on to attend renowned BFA and Vocal Performance programs such as, NYU Tisch, University of Miami, Royal Scottish Academy of Dramatic Arts, University of the Arts, Northwestern University, and Shenandoah Conservatory.

Carol’s Education & Background

A Depth of Vocal Knowledge

Carol earned both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Vocal Performance from The Peabody Conservatory. She has additional certifications in teaching contemporary vocal technique. She is a Level III certified teacher of Somatic Voicework from Shenandoah Conservatory. She completed the Bel Canto, Can Belto program under the tutelage of Mary Saunders Barton, head of the Musical Theatre Voice Department at Penn State. She has also traveled to London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts to work with Gillyanne Kayes, author of “Singing and The Actor” and teacher of West End singers. Her latest certification is in Level II Estill Voice Craft.

Carol is a Singing Voice Specialist. This designation qualifies her to work with damaged and injured voices. She receives patient referrals and works closely with the Voice Pathologists and Laryngologists at Johns Hopkins/GBMC Voice Center.

Carol’s Professional Experience

Experience & Career

An active member of the Baltimore music community, Carol was the Alto Soloist for St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, under the direction of James Harp for four years. Having a passion for Oratorio she has performed as the Alto Soloist in six Bach cantatas, as well as Vivaldi’s Gloria and Magnificat. A frequent soloist with The Handel Choir of Baltimore, she sang the alto solos in Handel’s Messiah and the Bach Magnificat. She has been singing professionally with the Baltimore Opera Chorus for twelve seasons, and has performed leading roles with regional opera companies around the country. She also performs frequently with Opera Vivente.

In addition to performing Opera, Carol has also perforned Jazz, Cabaret and was the lead singer and keyboardist in several rock bands, including two Baltimore bands, Candy and the Conspiracy and Radman West. She is also a gifted songwriter and an accomplished pianist.
